This recipe is an old Medieval Vinegar that has an interesting story. During the plague times in Europe so many people were dying. This left house holds vulnerable to thieves. A group of thieves were stealing from the victims of the plague. They finally got caught and were brought to court and they were asked the question “Why did you not get sick by the judge?” They went onto explain that they soak their mask in an herbal vinegar that protected them from the disease.
This vinegar I have used for years to clean my house, wash my floors, draining boards you can even wash the bathroom and then rinse your hair with it after you shampoo.
Vinegar of the Four Thieves
A quart jar of white vinegar
a fresh spring of rosemary, thyme, lavender and sage.
Place in a jar of vinegar and leave in the direct sun for a week. Then strain you can use it straight pouring it into a spray bottle for cabinets sinks and more. When I use it for the floors I usually have a bucket of water to rinse my mob out on the side, but I pour the vinegar on the mop directly after it been rinsed out. This way it is full strength to kill germs, remove dust and dirty. It leaves such a pleasant smell in the house which my kids still remember to this day.
When using it for a hair rinse 1 quart of water to 1/4 cup of vinegar. Pour over your hair then rinse as usual.
